How we choose the gear
It is not about more watts, but about sound reaching the back row clearly and at the right level. To size the system we consider:
- Audience size and the size of the space.
- Indoors or outdoors: in the open air sound disperses and needs more power and bass reinforcement.
- Room acoustics: high ceilings, marble or glass create reverberation that has to be controlled so speech is intelligible.
- What will be played: speeches and ceremonies need clear voice; dancing needs full range and subwoofers. A wedding or gala usually needs both.
Conventional speakers or line array
Conventional speakers are the natural choice for function rooms, press conferences and events of up to a few hundred people. For large crowds and outdoors a line array is used: several cabinets in a column that aim the sound at the audience and lose less level with distance, so the volume is more even from front to back.
Microphones and monitors
- Wireless handheld, for presenters moving around the stage.
- Headset or lavalier, hands-free for speakers and officiants.
- Wired, for singers and instruments.
- Stage monitors, so performers and speakers can hear themselves.
The sound technician
With live voice, several microphones or a large audience, the technician makes the difference: mixing in real time, avoiding feedback and tuning the sound to the room. That is why we recommend a sound check on site before the event.
Power supply
We check the available power with the venue. Small and medium events usually run on single-phase power; large ones on three-phase. At estates, marquees or outdoor sites without enough supply a generator is needed, ideally a silent one.
Noise and permits in Palma
Palma’s municipal noise and vibration bylaw sets noise limits by zone and time of day, and requires prior authorisation to use sound equipment outdoors and on a business’s terraces or gardens. In some cases the City Council may require sound limiters. We advise you on what your event needs before setting up.
What the quote depends on
We always work with tailor-made quotes. The main factors:
- Audience and space
- Number of people, size and indoors or outdoors.
- Type of event
- Speech, live music, DJ or a mix.
- Equipment
- Speakers, subwoofers, microphones, monitors and desk required.
- Technician
- Technician hours during the event.
- Set-up
- Set-up, sound check and dismantling, and their timing.
- Location
- Travel within Mallorca and the available power supply.
Sound hire FAQ
01How much power do I need for my event?
It depends on audience size, indoors or outdoors, the acoustics and whether there will be speech, music or both. Tell us those details and we will propose the right gear.
02Is a sound technician included?
We can include one, and we always recommend it when there is live voice, several microphones or a large audience.
03Do you set up and dismantle?
Yes: the service includes advice, set-up, technician and dismantling.
04Do I need a permit for outdoor music in Palma?
Palma’s noise bylaw requires prior authorisation to use sound equipment outdoors and on terraces or gardens. We guide you on the procedure and the limits in your area.
05Do you work all over Mallorca?
Yes. We are based in Palma and bring the equipment anywhere on the island.
